Animation

I graduated from Emily Carr in May of 2016 with a Bachelor of Media Arts in Animation. I was awarded the John C. Kerr Chancellor’s Award for Excellence in Media Arts and also received an award for Excellence in Animation and nominated for the President’s Media Arts Award for my short film “Mongoose”.

Now that the requisite bragging is done, I’d like to say that my love of animation runs deep and integral. Growing up in the country meant that my television channels were few and my VHSes many. It’s an origin story I’m sure is plenty common – Disney Classics making an animator out of a girl. I’d like to add that I hunted down anything animated, saving my allowance to buy whatever I could find: Direct to video, badly dubbed imports, Sunday school propaganda, whatever. The magic of moving art never failed to excite me. Now that I’m older, I’ll admit my tastes have refined, and I’ve become more devoted to the story aspect of animation and the various ways its conveyed, whether through storyboards, aesthetic, acting, or vibe. I’m excited to be working in the field and can’t wait to bring what I can to new productions. The community aspect of animation is something special, and working together to tell a story with others of like mind is a challenge and a delight. So bring it on!
